Abstract: “It’s bigger than all of us” is how one Adult Education student describes his Family Literacy program. A Two-Generation/Family Literacy program is a powerful model which serves and empowers not only adult students, but also families and communities. Student voices, a teacher, an administrator and former state director will share their experiences in Oakland, California: successes, challenges and lessons learned. Examples of the four-component national Family Literacy model and sample contextualized lessons will inspire and support implementation in your own Adult Education program.
