    Abstract:

Brevard Adult Education, who serves 3000 students a year, primarily relied on face to face instruction and registration processes that required students to come to one of our campuses for assistance. Within a week, we were able to transition our teachers and staff to remote settings while expanding opportunities for students. This presentation will also discuss the “silver linings” that will carryover beyond COVID-19. Recording link: https://youtu.be/iMwGamggm3E Original Air Date: April 23, 2020

    Abstract:

Over the past few weeks, our society has undergone major changes to try to slow the spread of COVID-19. Accurate, accessible health information is essential to help people stay safe and healthy, understand federal safety guidelines, and prevent unnecessary fear. The American Institutes for Research (AIR) has created a plain-language FAQ that addresses a variety of topics related to the COVID-19 pandemic. The document was developed as a resource for schools, day cares, healthcare organizations, and other public centers to distribute. It is designed to make this information accessible and comprehensible to everyone, regardless of education level or background. Presenters include Dr. Erica Shelton, an AIR researcher and emergency medicine physician in Baltimore, MD and Dr. Trenita Childers, an AIR health researcher specializing in equity and community engagement. The webinar begins by reviewing the FAQs to provide an overview of accurate, medically sound information. Then, presenters will share strategies and resources for providing information to adult learners with low literacy or limited English proficiency.   Recording link: https://youtu.be/PcKfQG5Rivs Original Air Date: April 16, 2020
