Abstract:
Available 24/7, Education and Skills Online (ES&O), is an assessment tool based on the Program for the International Assessment of Adult Competencies (PIAAC) that provides comprehensive information on cognitive skills of literacy, numeracy, and digital problem solving, as well as background information on your learners/clients. ES&O is designed to help practitioners and administrators in both educational and workplace settings assess skills of individuals. The tool can be used to determine placement for individuals in courses or placement at any point along a career pathway. It can also be used to evaluate classes, programs, or any other group of respondents. Learn how ES&O has been implemented in small and large organizations.

Abstract:
FUHSD Adult School in California has an explicit focus on Academic Readiness. Specifically, we define Academic Readiness as: The ability to be successful in the current and next learning venue which includes developing self-advocacy, taking responsibility for educational goals and communicating effectively. Learn how our ABE and ASE induction system and orientation begins with academic readiness training (SOAR) prior to students stepping foot in a classroom. Find out how we moved from very little student support to an abundance of student support that includes academic counseling, student case management, goal setting and self-assessment activities, flexible scheduling, built-in supports such as tutoring and a Learning Resource Center, academic field trips, book clubs and more. Further, get insight into how we have run staff development for classified, teaching, and administrative staff to unify our efforts around providing excellent and consistent student services. Abstract:
A preliminary first-year summary of the Adult Learner Leadership in Education Services (ALLIES) evaluation study undertaken by VALUEUSA is attached, as presented at COABE 2015. So far nearly 300 adult learners in six states have participated in this experimental study on the effects of student involvement as leaders in adult education programs. Abstract:
This professional development workshop focused on how to include formative assessment techniques into regular learning activities. Participants experienced formative classroom assessments techniques (CATs) and learned how to integrate these techniques in their practice. Participants created a CAT adapted for their learning event and a plan to administer, document, and share the results as action research.
