    Abstract:

    This session will help address some of the common challenges that teachers may encounter during the initial stages of implementation of TABE® 11 & 12 such as where to start, what materials to use, and how to help students succeed in this more rigorous test. This session will focus on teaching strategies and resources that align with the technology-enhanced items and format of the test. In addition, teachers will also explore how to allow students to take full advantage of all the available technology tools on the test. Lastly, teachers will walk away with a wealth of online teaching tools and resources aligned to the TABE® 11 & 12 Assessment Blueprints.

    Abstract:

    Many adults who leave high school before graduation go on to lead productive lives through grit and gumption. Some opt to return to our community college to complete their diploma. In addition to the GED® credential, our school offers a competency-based high school diploma program called High School 21+ (HS21+). The HS21+ option allows students to re-enter school with a proficiency focus that incorporates high school credits already earned, documented work and life experience related to high school academics, and technological, literacy, and cognitive skills demonstrations within the classroom. We provide an emergent learning space for achievement and completion that maximizes prior learning success. This webinar demonstrates competency-based college and career readiness that, through effective interaction and technology-intensive rigor, scaffolds high school completion with workplace and college readiness.

    Abstract:

    If you have ever worked with an I-BEST (Integrated Basic Education Skills Training) program, you will know that I-BEST students fast track through both GED® testing and skills training through this nationally recognized instructional model. I-BEST students are quicker than their traditionally enrolled contemporaries to improve their basic skills in reading, writing, and math, complete their GED exam, and arrive at a career entry point. The downside to I-BEST is that it’s expensive. Heather has taught 4 I-BEST programs and has come to realize that there are ways to replicate components of I-BEST at very low or no additional cost to your program. This webinar will look at how, by making a few simple changes, we can help our traditionally enrolled students also get the best that our programs can offer.

    Abstract:

    How do urban adult education providers design and implement career pathways (CP)? This presentation highlights findings from in-depth, qualitative case studies of six CP programs offered by community colleges, CBOs, and a school district in Chicago, Houston, and Miami. Key features of CP programs are described and compared, including their goals, instructional components, instructor expertise, staffing, support services, and access for lower-level students, among others. Salient factors that contribute to student success are also discussed, including wraparound supports, partnerships, bridge classes, and more.
